The integration of generative artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education provoked an initial reaction comparable to a public health crisis: a polarization between technological utopianism and existential panic. Early diagnoses warned of an “epidemic” of plagiarism, cognitive atrophy, and the death of the traditional academic essay. However, evidence and critical reflection demonstrate that these extreme positions are untenable. The true public and institutional health challenge for the contemporary academic environment is neither the systematic quarantine nor the uncontrolled exposure to these technologies, but rather the development of protocols for their ethical and pedagogically sound adoption. When properly implemented, AI should neither supplant student intellectual inquiry nor mechanize the emotional scaffolding inherent to teaching. Conversely, it represents a paradigm shift toward designing healthier, more collaborative academic environments.es
