We present a socio-historical perspective on human emotion and emotional education based on Vygotsky’s work. Working through emotions and emotional attachment must be seen as enabling conditions for relationships between students and teachers in zones of proximal development. The importance of experientially engaging the emotions for learning, rather than diminishing them or reducing their value is central.
